North (Davis County)

Adams Canyon-Lower Falls
Distance: 15 min from trail-head
Difficulty: easy
Highlights:  Beautiful views and small waterfall
Time: 1 hour
Directions:  From exit 326 of I-15 drive north for 6 miles on HWY 89.  After passing signal at Oak Hills Drive, and milepost 340, watch for the next road on the right.  Turn right onto the East-side Drive frontage road.  Continue south for .3 miles on Eastside Drive to the trail head parking lot on the left.  The unmarked parking area is at the northeast corner of Eastside Drive and Canyon Creek Drive (350 North)

Summary:  From the northeast corner of the parking lot follow the trail near a fence through a thicket of Gamble oak.  After 100 yards the path turns left up a steep slope and follows a series of switch-backs up the sandy hillside until you reach a level trail heading in both directions along the mountain.   Don't get discouraged at this difficult part of the trail.  It is interesting to think that this sandy part of the trail was once slopes of the Lake Bonneville shoreline.  Turn RIGHT and continue for another 5 minutes until you see a connecting trail heading steeply downhill in the opposite direction toward large rocks.  Head down trail for another 5 minutes past the rocks to a more level section.  Trail will head the opposite direction downhill to the foot of the waterfall.  Stick to the widest trail, their are a few smaller ones.
CAUTION:  Keep eyes open for snakes, they like the sunny hillside.

Directions:  Follow above directions until you reach the side trail that leads down to the lower waterfall, and continue into the canyon.  Just after entering the trees of the canyon you can see a side trail leading down to a sturdy bridge that crosses the stream.  This is the (Bonneville Shoreline Trail, which is also fun to do.)  Do not cross, continue on canyon trail on north side of stream.  As you ascend the canyon, the trail becomes steeper and rockier.  At 1.4 miles, the trail crosses from north to south side of creek on a wooden foot bridge.  Soon a large slab rock blocks the trail.  You will have to go around the rock on the right until you can meet up with trail.  The last .4 miles are steep up to the waterfall.  There are several cascades along the way.  After arriving at the rock cliff that forms the backdrop of the waterfall you will cross the creek one more time to take you to the base of the falls.  Enjoy the site with a great snack or picnic!
